Anger Management
Our anger management therapy sessions help people from all walks of life. We know how hard it is to feel like you don’t have control over your anger or emotions. Maybe you have experienced a situation with your partner or spouse in which you felt this way. Or maybe you have struggled in your professional life because you sometimes get “buttons pushed”. You don’t have to feel alone with this struggle anymore.
Confront The Root of Your Anger
Anger management therapy helps to realize where anger comes from. Our anger has been programmed from a young age due to trauma, PTSD, and behavioral responses that maybe you have seen and modeled from parents or caretakers. This is a maladaptive behavioral response that has helped us to cope with traumatic situations in order to survive difficult experiences. In other words, it is there for a reason. And it was there to actually help at the time. But now you know – it is time for a change. So this is a big deal, to say the very least. You are willing to fix the problem because you picked up the phone.
Sunflower Counseling gets a lot of people who seek help to work on their anger management coping skills. We help them gain more control over their emotions and to change their lives. We want to help you by first learning and understanding how these behavioral responses are initiated in your brain. This is important because to change something, to change anything, you have to fully understand the source – where it came from.
Honor Your Anger Experience
While you are gaining these insights with your therapist they will work with you to understand and honor your experience. This isn’t just a soundboard to dump all of your past issues. This is an empathic, caring professional who is trained at understanding and helping you find greater awareness and insight into how to make your situation improve. We believe you are courageous and want to change because you are taking this step. And so we will meet you there. You can find peace, love, joy, and the ability to manage your state and your behaviors. You have come this far and are brave to want more for your life.
Anger Management Counseling
You know, we’ve seen a lot of people in our years of experience who have been told that they need to take anger management classes. Maybe it’s because they got into a heated argument at work, or they lashed out at a loved one at home. Sometimes, it takes an outside observer to notice that someone’s anger is spiraling out of control.
But here’s the thing: taking an anger management class or seeing an anger therapist or counselor is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, it’s a great way to start working towards change.
Anger can be a powerful emotion, and it can be difficult to manage. But with the right tools and guidance, it’s possible to learn how to control your anger and respond to stressful situations in a more productive way. That’s where anger management classes and therapy come in – they provide a safe space to explore your emotions and learn how to express them in a healthy way.
And let me tell you, it’s not just about managing your anger in the moment. It’s also about understanding the root causes of your anger and addressing them head-on. Maybe it’s past trauma or stress that’s been building up over time. Whatever the case may be, a trained anger therapist or counselor can help you get to the bottom of it and start making positive changes in your life.
So if you or someone you know is struggling with anger management, don’t be afraid to seek help. It’s a sign of strength, not weakness, to recognize that you need support in this area. Together, we can work towards a happier, healthier, and more fulfilling life.
Effective Anger Management
You may be asking yourself, “will this work” or “is anger management therapy effective?” The answer to these questions is always any movement forward toward making your life better is a huge success. Our counselors use evidence-based techniques and offer tools and coping skills that are shown to dramatically decrease the maladaptive behavior a person might be experiencing. This is a scientifically proven way to help change the way people cope with situations. Just like you would be going to a doctor and they prescribe a treatment to alleviate negative symptoms – the same is true for negative behavioral symptoms. In other words, the brain is elastic and the wiring is not fixed. We believe in the proven “growth mindset” which teaches people are able to take small steps to make BIG changes.
Our Anger Management therapists often see people who fall into the category of “impotent rage”. This is when a person feels helpless because they cannot do anything to solve a particular problem. And isn’t life like this sometimes? We all run into a brick wall at some point in our life. But some people feel so helpless that this triggers a state of fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. People who suffer from anger management will choose one of these options. It’s not just “fight”. Many people will feel so angry and thus, so helpless, that they will escape into drugs and alcohol. Or, maybe it’s more simple, and they will get in their car and just get up and leave town!
Freeze is when the person with anger management just locks up and literally freezes, powerless. Fawn is like it sounds – a baby deer. That is, when a baby deer meets a predator, sometimes it will seduce its prey so it doesn’t get eaten alive. Likewise, when some of us meet a human-like predator, in the form of a narcissist, and we face a situation where we cannot win, it is easier to try and win the narcissist over rather than to face the conflict head-on. With some narcissists you can never win, and so it is best to exit stage left.
